On November 13, 2008, the LIWA Leadership Council sponsored LIWA Orientation Night. Over 90 women attended this event. The women visited LIWA Organization Member tables and found out about the different groups that make up LIWA. They also had the opportunity to speak with all of the different commitees within LIWA.

On September 16, 2008 over 170 women gathered at FOUR Food Studio for Networking 101 for Women. The speakers were Mindy Ferrentino Wolfle from Neptune Marketing and Ellen Cooperperson from Corporate Performance Consultants, Inc.. Topics included Tips & Tricks for Developing Your Network and Behavioral Style & Its Role in Networking.

On June 3, 2008 LIWA celebrated it's 10 year Anniversary by honoring Erica Garay, LIWA founder, and the first Board of Directors. Our other honorees were Community Advocate ~ Beverly Fortune, Honorable "Men"-tion ~ Ron Israeli M.D. FACS and Organizations of the Year ~ Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic and Planned Parenthood Nassau County.

The Smart Students Smart Health conference was an opportunity for participants to focus on key issues affecting their health and wellness. The Long Island Women's Agenda's (LIWA) goal was to share information that educated concerned Mothers and Daughters about health and safety issues facing many college students today. This event included a diversified panel of health experts.

On June 13, 2007, LIWA honored five exemplary role models, who are leaders, innovators, and caring and engaged members of the community. They each have contributed in countless ways to economic empowerment, health issues, and the betterment of women and girls. As a group, they represent many of the issues that LIWA member organizations work on each and every day.

On May 22nd The Long Island Fund for Women & Girls (LIFWG) and the Long Island Women's Agenda (LIWA) launched The Early Years Matter: Smart, Healthy, Happy Children - Start with Play, an island-wide public awareness and community education campaign that focuses on the importance of play as part of healthy, early childhood development, at the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City.

On Tuesday, May 8th, 50 represenatives of LIWA's member organizations joined senior leaders of six of Long Island's most active philanthropic organizations, agencies and government entities for a free organizational member breakfast at Newsday.
|
|
|
|
The Long Island Women's Agenda, in cooperation with Long Island Woman, hosted a hugely successful Book & Author Tea on Sunday, March 11 at The Melville Marriott. More than 100 women attended the event, which featured talented Long Island women authors. LIWA is grateful to event sponsors SUNY Stony Brook, Astoria Federal Savings, and NEFCU as well as to Debbi Honorof for coordinating and moderating the event.
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy delivered the opening remarks.

In the first Women in Conversation series of the new year, Dr. Diane Kramer,coach, author, and designer of widely acclaimed breakthrough training systems demonstrated the techniques you need to eliminate self-defeating behaviors.

On January 26, 2007, Joye Brown, Newsday, moderated a distinguished panel of national, state and local women in government. The successful event was attended by more than 80 women and was extremely informative. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County unveiled their new patch "Go Girl Govern" , which was the brain child of board members Melissa Connolly and Joyce Wagner.
